Summer 2015
Yet another season of Summer English Camp at Center AT is over and I’m sure kids, camp counselors and other active contributors to the great time we had look back at it with a mix of bittersweet emotions.
Before talking about the camp itself I’d like to express my gratitude to all of those who helped us organize and carry out this ambitious and awesome project: kids/teens, their parents, my colleagues and the management! Thank you so much!!!
This was my second year as a camp counselor and my third year as a program planner/organizer. Each year brings a lot of experience and new ideas and we make sure the program of the camp is different and exciting each season. The fact that all camp counselors work with different age groups on a daily basis helps us find just the right way to combine fun and studying. The idea is to use activities and games to make the language acquisition process enjoyable and simple. Based on the experience of previous years and our research on effective methods we decided to teach two standard classes of English every day. It was a great way to stimulate the development of language skills and it brought a sense of even more variety to our schedule.
This year we had so much fun stuff but since it’s not an essay of 1000 words I’ll try to keep it brief and I’m sure pictures will tell you a better story.
We were quite surprised because kids were very mature for their age in terms of being able to do the chores and adjust their behavior. They all had different backgrounds and ideas but somehow we felt like a real family. We studied, played games, participated in multiple competitions and excursions. We also had fun dancing in the local club and soon enough were recognized by other campers as talented and fun group to be around))))
When people go somewhere new they learn a lot about this other place, people and especially themselves because they encounter so many new settings and situations. You could definitely see the kids’ personal improvement and development during these 10 (apparently short) days. Time flew by and now we’re back to our everyday routine, but the memories and impressions will be treasured by us forever.
I’m looking forward to the next year and hope you’ll join us!!!
Best wishes,
Yuliya
